How have we let this imperialist war continue. What can we do to stop it? Seriously, let's get active. Reading statistics made me want to cry. The U.S. is sucking iraq dry, I don't know if anything will be left if this continues for another few years. Fuck the U.S. Govt and corporate america.

I have never been a big drinker. I can't stand the taste of alcohol. At all. I want to gag whenever it goes down my throat. Even things that people generally drink cos they like the taste, like wine or beer, I really hate. I've only been drunk a few times, and it was from taking a bunch of shots. Shots make me gag, too, but at least it's over quickly. I can't stand having a bunch of mixed drinks even though they don't taste as bad, because I require sooo many to feel anything, and my stomach starts feeling really full, you know?
SO my question is this. I want to start drinking. Not a ton, but I just want to drink socially with friends on weekends & such. What can I drink that won't taste disgusting but will give me a buzz without requiring me to drink a lot of it? I guess I prefer shots, as they get the job done quickly, but I really hate the taste. I have had shots of Scotch and rum. The Scotch is nastier but the rum is so..sickly sweet or something. I've also had vodka, which makes me sick to think of. It's like rubbing alcohol to me. What would you recommend to take shots of that tastes the least nasty? Or even, what is a potent mixed drink that doesn't taste horrible? Thanks!

I played piano from the age of 5 until I was 18. I haven't touched one in over 15 years now but I am itching to play again. I am going to hire a keyboard one from a music shop for a few weeks before I commit to buying one.

For those of you who play, any suggestions as to what I would hire? I don't need anything too fancy but definitely something compatible with my Mac so I can record stuff and screw around with it.

Have you ever heard of an apartment scam in which the landlord actually shows you the apartment?  I found the perfect apartment today, but I'm paranoid and it seems too good to be true, so I want to cover my ass.  Thanks!

I love songs that are remakes of originals but have a twist. Faster, slower, new words, anything.

For example, the Flobots did "So Happy Together" with a rap overlay. I LOVE IT.

Do you know of any songs like this? Do you like them or are they offensive to you?

You can call me Nam, as I prefer my World of Warcraft character name (Namandra) to my actual name. Interesting fact huh? That is only the beginning. I love to read and write, and cook. I also happen to be terrible at writing posts like this. Musically...my ipod looks as if it is shared by four people or used by one schizophrenic. I am an English teacher, a second degree black belt and oh yeah, kinda crazy. I am looking for a few open minded, funny, friends who listen well and give good advice. I am willing to provide the same! I will attempted to update my journal daily, but I am terrible at it as a rule. I started a new journal with the hopes that I would post...so here's hoping! Friend if you'd like to!

i have a "personal" account right now on paypal, and it keeps asking me to "get verified" by either linking my bank account or by applying for a paypal plus credit card...

for those of you who use paypal, did u link your bank account? how secure is that really? or did u apply for the credit card? what is that all about?

i read the FAQs but was a bit confused... ?

i would like to be able to (eventually) accept credit card payments for items im selling through paypal... but that isnt completely necessary right now. right now im just a shopper :)

any tips / info about using paypal would be much appreciated! (& sorry if this is redundant or gets asked alot...)

Next Friday I'm going to a friend's 19th birthday, and she wants us all to go to a nice club. The place she's taking us to has a dress code of "style enforced." I did some recon and the place is both swanky and ridiculous - gallons of bling and makeup, etc. I want to look nice and "stylish" but not like a ho, but I fail at dressing myself for things like this.

tl;dr: Party times, style me.

The dress I'm planning to wear is under the cut - what would you wear with it for a night on the town? I'm on a budget but I'm willing to shop a bit.

if i end up looking like a bumblebee that's cool too. )

In the wake of facebook taking over the world and my social life. I have deleted my account. And well myspace is just lame to begin with so that's gone too. I've got livejournal, even though its slowly dying.

I guess I have a twitter but I don't even know how to work it well enough to delete it. I'm sure the next time I'm on a real computer that will be gone too.

I'm just tired of old friends solely keeping in contact through social networking sites. So if you don't have my number and want to talk to me outside of livejournal just ask and its yours. Chances are I have yours anyway.

I feel really positive about this.

I've saturated myself with so much reading lately that I am beginning to lose a bit of my social abilities. I feel really empty today. Last night feels like a dream. And I'm kind of sick to my stomach right now.

There's a special place
Where the wind blows strong
And the nights are long
There's a special place
Where I have made some friends
You could call em reds.
There's a special place
Where I can only visit
There's a special place.
where I thought I grew up
I will never grow up.
And that special place
Well it will always be corpus.

I have spread my heart all over the south and its getting hard for me to keep up with all the people I care about. My heart seriously hurts because no matter how hard I try I can't be with everyone at once. I fucking miss so many people and I love everyone here. Its such a hard thing for me.

I just want to be content.

Have any of you been too or lead a music therapy class?
What kind of stuff did you do?

I'm working at a day program adults with diverse abilities (or disabled however you want to put it) and there's a music therapy class but they are getting a little bit dry. One of the other staff asked me to come up with some new ideas so I need some inspiration/a ground to start on. Don't worry though I won't steal your lessons!

HEY!

Let's have OFF TOPIC WEEKEND!

Starting tonight at midnight. OFF TOPIC!

Why? Why not. If you're going to post something sick, or sexual or ...gay *cracks up* post it behind a cut with a warning. UNLESS you are me and then I'll do what I want. ;)

-Your immature dictator who thinks the community needs to liven up a bit!

By the way, at midnight I'm going to me a big True Blood post featuring my husband Eric Northman, so I claim that subject!

Off Topic Weekend ends Sunday at midnight! This could be awesome or awful, but it's the internet so who cares. If you post to Off Topic Weekend, please tag your post NFR and Off Topic Weekend.

Has there ever been a time where you felt the need to just start fresh?

Maybe it's that you decided to change towns, maybe you left a relationship, or maybe you just started being yourself instead of being the "you" others wanted you to be.

Care to tell me about it?

DS or PSP?

I was wondering which is more preferred. I'm thinking of buying one or the other, but I don't really know the difference. I know that the PSP has better graphics and video capability. Other than that, I have no idea.

If you have one, did you regret your choice?
If you have both, which do you like better?

So, me and a friend are having a friendly argument. She starts law school in August and is required to have a laptop, and bring it class, as many of the tests are administered electronically. She says many if not most colleges require laptops now, and even some public elementary/high schools. I have never heard of this and think it's a ridiculous requirement. But I admit to being biased because I am old and poor. But I would like to get an idea of how common this really is. Does your school require that you have a laptop? What sort of requirements for the laptop do they have, ie will an inexpensive netbook suffice, or do you need a lot of processing power etc? What school? Thanks!

I'm Abbie, and I have been posting on Livejournal in one form or another for 9 years now.
I am currently looking for new friends because, sadly, my friend's list is quite bare at the moment.
I tend to post one to two post a day, and read my friend's page twice as much (though I find there is less and less for me to read everyday).
I am currently 26, with one two year old daughter and 4 months along with my second child.

I am into music, I enjoy classic rock, classical, opera, rock, punk, gothic, industrial, and techno...
I barely watch the telly, but I do like shows like House, Firefly, and Invader Zim... And I do currently have an obsession with Dr. Rodney McKay from Stargate: Atlantis, but we will not go there.
I am also into art, and have a Deviant Art page were I post most of my silly things.

I am not everyone's cup of tea really. I have a morbid sense of humour, and a cynical approach to a lot of things in life.

If you are interested in seeing if we might have some things in common, please feel free to check out my profile.
I look forward to meeting some new and interesting people.

My mom says that the phrase "a tale told by an idiot full of sound and fury signifying nothing" is originally from the Bible. I can't find anything that confirms that by googling the phrase, but she's sure she's right. Anyone know anything about this? I know it's from MacBeth, but she says Shakespeare got it from the Bible. My mom is an English major who took a billion Shakespeare classes in college, so I want to believe her, but I don't know.

Do you ever think 'My god. I'm turning into my father/mother'? What brings this thought on?

My dad has a thing against travel mugs. When he goes to Starbucks or somewhere, he saves the cups and puts his tea in one when he needs to take it somewhere. He claims travel mugs make the tea taste funny. I picked up the saving and re-using cups habit from him, but did it because it seemed wasteful not to (particularly because Starbucks tends to give you two cups for tea). Of late, I haven't been using a travel mug because I can make tea on campus (just keep a mug there), but this week I found myself taking a paper cup with me because the tea tasted better in it!

Hi. I'm a 23-year-old girl living in the green and usually rainy (unless it's the dry spell of summer...) Pacific Northwest. I recently cleaned up my journal and I'm starting anew and hoping to make some lasting friendships on this site.

I'm quiet and shy, sometimes prone to anxiety and melancholy. My past was difficult and I'm still struggling often, but I look for beauty and inspiration in life too. My comforts include music, books, art, tea, nature, and my cat. I can be serious and introspective, but I have a sense of humour too, although my own attempts to be humourous usually fail. I haven't yet given up on my desire to be loved by someone, someday. I hope I will be.

For awhile my answer to "when I grow up..." was aspiring to be an art museum curator. Yet I seem to be perpetually on this path of growing and learning, and thus I'm still trying to figure out what exactly my future holds. I dream of going abroad to be an au pair for a bit. I've been to England and the Netherlands and now I'd like to run away again to Europe. But perhaps I will stay here and find a serious care-giving job closer to home, in my own community. I have a strong desire to help people, especially children.

I don't know what else to say here...

Feel free to take a look at my profile for some of my specific interests. If you'd like to add me, I'd appreciate if you introduced yourself at the public entry in my journal. At this point I'm only comfortable adding females... Age isn't that important, but under 30 is probably best. I honestly don't have any specific requirements otherwise... I simply hope that you'll correspond with me sometimes and share your thoughts.

(I cross-posted this. Sorry if you see it again...)

I'm organising a hen party for one of my best friends and in order to keep the momentum going I'm making a list of questions for the 'I have never' game. You know, the one where people say things they've never done, and anyone who has done it has to drink. But no-one can ever think of questions on the spur of the moment, hence the backup list.

The guests are pretty varied in terms of experience/openess/prudishness so we're having two categories: 'rude' (sexual stuff) and 'risky' (pretty much anything else).

Predictably, we're finding it hard to come up with stuff. So AMA, can you get your creative juices flowing and make some rude and risky suggestions??

What did you have for dinner last night?

What did you want to have?

The golden age just left.

I forgot how much I love jordan, I miss that dude tons.
They played foundation and it was extremely heart warming.

I'm glad I got to feed and house those dudes because I don't get to see and or hang out with anyone from texas that often and it reminded me of the good times.

On a very side note, last night made me wish the contender were still around. haha.

There is a gem & mineral store up the street that I've been buying from for quite a while, seeing as they're basically the only place in town.  A few months ago, a small piece of amber came in, maybe 1.5" in size.  The tag claims that the bugs in it are 10 very tiny hornets, one very tiny beetle, one very tiny spider, and a few even tinier flies.  As far as I'm aware (and I'm fairly knowledgable), they haven't sold anything fake in the past, (the owner goes on mining trips himself) but now I'm wary.  Is there any way to know if this piece is fake just by looking, or would I need to test it in-store?  I don't know if he'd like that too much.  The piece just seems way too cheap at $30.  Thoughts?
